Alan Mantooth is a Distinguished Professor of electrical engineering and holder of The Twenty-First Century Research Leadership Chair. His research focuses on  IC design and power electronics.

Why did you choose to teach and research in your field?

I enjoy leading research endeavors to solve big problems. The university setting is the best place to do this. I always had a knack for teaching, so this seemed a natural fit.

What’s your favorite thing about teaching at the U of A?

Sharing knowledge with young people to help build their technical knowledge and open doors for their careers.

What’s one thing about you that your students probably don’t know?

I am a woodworker.

What words of advice do you have for engineering students?

Remember the three Ps and you’ll succeed: perspiration, patience, and persistence.
