What is your major and what made you choose that field of study?
I am majoring in electrical engineering. What made me choose that major was the lack of professionals in this field in my hometown, and my love for innovation and the implementation of new technologies. The fact that I can help people doing what I like makes me love this major more every day. There are a lot of projects going on in Brazil, and the companies find it necessary to hire professionals from other countries. I feel that the electrical engineering field grow more each day and it will not stop.
What has been your favorite experience as an engineering student?
My favorite experience as an engineering student was last summer. I participated in the first ever electrival engineerign design project where a group of students worked on the design of a printed circuit board, designing it from scratch to the manufacture stage. When Dr. Saunders (my advisor) asked me to participate, I thought I wasn’t going to learn that much. I got to feel like a real electrical engineer in today’s world, designing, creating, and testing different models of printed circuit boards. This opportunity led to me getting interviewed by Garmin last fall.
What is your dream job?
I would say that it will have to do with helping people using my knowledge. I do not really have a specific place where I see myself. I will go where there are opportunities.
What year do you expect to graduate?
I expect to graduate in 2018.
What did you have for breakfast this morning?
I did not have breakfast this morning! I just had some apple juice
Are you currently working on any projects?
I am not currently working on any projects of my own, but I am looking forward to working with design this summer or getting a research assistant opportunity.
Any words of wisdom for other students?
I have two pieces of advice for other students: Always try and bother people. The worst thing that can happen is they say “no” and that does not hurt anyone. This is a phrase you should never have to say: “If I had tried…”. Also, do what you love; enjoy life. Do not get trapped somewhere you do not want to be. Sometimes, you have to be tough and love yourself a little before you can love others.
