Jamie Hestekin is an associate professor and holder of them Jim L. Turpin Endowed Professorship in Chemical and Biochemical Separations. In his research, he studies charged separations and biofuel production.
Why did you choose to teach and research in your field?
I thought it was a chance to help turn bright young minds into productive members of society.
What’s your favorite thing about teaching at the U of A?
My favorite thing is that no-one knows how nice it is here and the students are absolutely spectacular!
What’s one thing about you that your students probably don’t know?
I took piano lessons from 2nd grade until I was a senior in college.
What words of advice do you have for engineering students?
Get the best grades you can. It makes job hunting so much easier. You can party after you get your degree. You will have more money then anyways!
