Arkansas Engineer

The magazine of the University of Arkansas College of Engineering

Why did you choose the U of A?

It was local and it was close. I knew reliable people who were here.

Why did you choose your major/focus?

I have been doing robotics and circuitry for about 6 years now. I already know a lot about the aspects of electrical engineering so I wanted to learn more about mechanical engineering. That department was still fuzzy. I’m considering an aerospace minor, as well.

What are your future plans and how did your college experience shape them?

Hopefully not in a gutter. I really want to work in some design concept manufacturing. I really enjoy robotics, aerospace, locomotive and medical technology for some strange reason.

What research have you been working on?

I do a lot of projects on my own – right now I’m working on a laser harp, electromagnetic levitation display, and a wearable computer system.

Do you have any words of wisdom for your fellow students?

Perseverance is key – stick with it and you’ll get there. I know people who are 27 who are still working on their degree – not because they need it but because engineering is what is exciting. They’ll work hard and eventually get where they are going.
