Where are you from and how did you first get interested in engineering?
Atlanta, Georgia. Georgia Tech was very involved at my school. I went to a math and science magnet school, and in the summers I had research opportunities with Georgia Tech. I went to Georgia Tech’s Women in Engineering summer program in 7th grade, met a civil engineer, and thought, “I can do that.”
What is your major and area of study?
I’m part of the dual degree program so I got my mathematics degree from Fort Valley State University, and am now working on my civil engineering degree here at the University of Arkansas.
What is your dream job?
Ultimately, I would like to start and run my very own civil engineering firm.
What year do you expect to graduate?
I am graduating May 2017 but plan to attend my masters in civil engineering with a focus in transportation engineering.
Any advice for other engineering majors?
I heard this the other day – “Your goals don’t care about how you feel.” As an engineering major, sometimes you don’t feel like doing what you have to do but you have to get rid of your feelings. It’s about doing what you have to do to get where you want to be.
